LaBelle

LaBelle, Florida

LaBelle, FL

Along the scenic, winding Caloosahatchee River in Hendry County lies the friendly town of LaBelle, Florida. With less than 5,000 residents, LaBelle is certainly small, but its presence looms as large as its role in Florida history.

When people think of Florida, they often think about sandy beaches, fun in the sun, and citrus fruits. And nowadays, you’ll find plenty of citrus farms around town, but LaBelle is also cattle country. Its origins as such have shaped the livestock industry throughout the region.

The area was first settled in the late 1800s, about when we began draining the Everglades to make the area more habitable. Cattle drovers and trappers mainly populated it back then. But by the early 1900s, industrious cattle pioneers had turned LaBelle into a flourishing ranch town. Famous breeds like Poll Angus and Brahman got their start here.

Fast forward another hundred years or so, and there are still many cattle ranches in and around town. It’s a favorite destination for cowboys, but regardless of whether or not you like to don a Stetson, there are still plenty of things to see and do around town.

Have Some Recreational Fun

There is no better place to hike or paddle than at LaBelle Nature Park. This beautiful, nine-acre expanse stretches along the eastern end of the Caloosahatchee River and offers many activities for the whole family.

For an even more thrilling experience and a view of the true Everglades, check out Townsend and Sons Everglades Outfitters. Their expeditions are family-friendly and offer an opportunity to hunt alligators, hogs, and turkeys over 4,000 acres with their expert guidance. It’s a South Florida swamp-hunting experience unlike any other.

Shop ‘Til You Drop

Or at least for a few hours. LaBelle has some must-see shops you won’t want to miss. For antiques, collectibles, and different kinds of wonderful décor, drop by Me & My Girls Antiques.

For some sweet, honey-themed products, visit Harold P. Curtis Honey Co. It is a great place to find everything from candy to candles and is also historic. The building dates back to 1927 and was once the town’s mercantile shop.

Feast Like A Cattle King

LaBelle has some wonderful restaurants to satisfy your cravings. The baby back ribs are to die for at Log Cabin Bar B Que, and you’ve got to try their fried corn on the cob.

Another dining experience you can’t skip is Two Peas Café. This tiny but cherished gem boasts some of the best pies around and phenomenal breakfasts and lunches. The locals say to come hungry, but you sure won’t leave that way.
